"Samsung keeps churning out smartphones as if there's no tomorrow, stuffing the channels with sometimes marginally different handsets six months after it introduced the previous crop. The is not an exception to this strategy – about half a year since the company launched something like the , for instance, it announced the Galaxy Y, which, according to the new naming scheme, should be an affordable handset for teens or emerging markets." 8.7/10 Stars

"The Y doesn't feel particularly sturdy, though, so we don't recommend you throw it around too much. It doesn't necessarily feel poorly built -- it's more that it feels like it's made out of low-grade materials. It certainly doesn't have the sturdy feel of its bigger brothers. "

"The screen is where the Galaxy Y's low price is most obvious. It's small, at three-inches, but more importantly it's relatively low-resolution at 320x240 pixels (133 pixels per inch) and even manages to look a little fuzzy and ill-defined, especially with text. Web pages tend to look a little cramped (or at least they do if you're used to a more standard-sized screen) and it really helps if you have small fingers to negotiate the on-screen keyboard -- even using Swype mode -- where you don't have to remove your finger from the screen." 7/10

"Performance is about what we would expect from a phone that costs $129. We experienced occasional lag when opening and closing apps, but the general user experience was smooth and snappy. The Galaxy Y doesn't have enough grunt to support Flash Web browsing, but pinch to zoom is present, meaning you can use gestures on the touch screen to zoom in and out of apps like Google Maps and the Web browser." 3.5/5 Stars

"We'd lie if we say that typing on a virtual keyboard spread out on a 3” screen is easy, regardless of the display's orientation. The keyboard is well spaced, even in portrait mode, but unless you are in high school, you won't be spending your time typing on the Galaxy Y for too long, and will most likely keep your texts and emails short and to the point. "Are you young and easily impressed? Yes? Good, you'll need to be. The Galaxy Y is so wee that only the tiniest of fingers will be happy poking its 3-inch, low-res display. Likewise, the diminutive chip means you'll need the imagination of a tech ingénue encountering the exciting world of smart phones for the first time to be wowed by all it has to offer. " 3/5 Stars

"There isn't anything new or remarkable about the Galaxy Y. It's a candybar phone with a small 3in touchscreen, a 2-megapixel camera and an MP3 player. The smartphone is 11.4 mm thin and is available in coral pink or metallic grey colours — all in all, it has a straightforward set of features." 3/5 Stars

"The first thing you notice is that it has a tiny screen. Just three inches across diagonal corners. And it has a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels. That's just too low for a serious smartphone. Text looks a bit fuzzy, there's not enough real estate for serious web browsing or video viewing. It feels under specified."
